Boat cleaning brushes: telescopic and manual
A good wash brush makes cleaning a boat considerably easier, faster and more effective. With the right brush you can reach every part of the hull, deck and cabin, including hard-to-reach spots. The choice of brush depends on the surface to be cleaned and the distance you need to work over: a telescopic brush for the hull of a larger boat, a short-handled brush for the cabin or small surfaces, and a rim brush for fenders, wheels and round details. At Watersportsonline you will find a complete range of wash brushes for every size of boat and every application.

Telescopic vs. fixed handle: when to choose which?
A telescopic wash brush is the most versatile choice for cleaning the outside of a boat. The adjustable length makes it suitable for boats of various sizes. Many telescopic brushes have a water feed through the handle so you can connect a garden hose for simultaneous rinsing. Fixed handles are sturdier and give more feedback when brushing, but are better suited for detail work in the cabin. Brush selection by surface
The softness of the brush is just as important as the length. A soft brush or microfibre wash brush is suitable for gelcoat, varnish, plastics and glass. A firmer brush can be used on antifouling and teak decks (along the grain). The rim brush is specifically designed for round shapes: fenders, wheel arches and round details.
Frequently asked questions about boat cleaning brushes
Can I use an ordinary household cleaning brush for my boat?
Technically possible, but not ideal. Household brushes are often too hard for gelcoat and varnish. Marine wash brushes are softer and sometimes fitted with a water feed through the handle.
How do I maintain my wash brushes?
Rinse thoroughly with fresh water after use. For telescopic handles: extend and retract the handle a few times after rinsing to remove salt from the locking zone. Store lying or hanging, not standing on the bristles.
How long should my telescopic brush be?
Hull height plus the distance from which you work. For a hull of 80 cm at pontoon level, 150-200 cm is sufficient. For larger boats, 250-300 cm is the better choice.
Are the brushes also suitable for cleaning antifouling?
Soft brushes are good for rinsing and desalting antifouling. For heavy growth a firmer brush or pressure washer is more effective. Never use a metal brush on antifouling.
