| Outboard Motor Lock OBL2 | SCM | Heavier version for larger motors |
| Cable Lock 250 cm + Shackle Lock | ART-1 | Secure trailer or boat to fixed point, short distance |

For most recreational boaters the combination of a SCM-approved outboard motor lock (OBL1 for motors up to 50 hp, OBL2 for heavier motors) plus an ART-1 cable lock with shackle lock is the standard security insurers require. For trailers on driveway or storage site almost every insurer recommends a Floor Anchor/Wall Anchor ART-4 as anchor point. The Gator chain lock is the heavier choice for extra security against professional thieves. Check the broader boat locks collection, the outboard motor locks range and the trailer locks collection.
Frequently asked questions about Lockk
What's the difference between ART and SCM approval?
ART and SCM are the two main Dutch approval institutes for security products. SCM (Foundation Certification Motor Vehicles) focuses on locks for vehicles and motors — Lockk's outboard motor locks are SCM-approved. ART (Foundation Risk Approach and Theft Prevention) focuses on locks for bicycles, scooters, trailers and loose security objects. ART approval has four stars: ART-1 is standard, ART-4 is the heaviest class. Insurers usually require at least ART-1 for trailers and SCM for outboard motors. Lockk products with these approvals meet the policy conditions of virtually every Dutch watersports insurance.
Which lock for my outboard motor?
The OBL1 is suited for most light to medium outboard motors up to about 50 hp and fits on the standard clamp bolts of Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Tohatsu and Mariner. The OBL2 is a heavier version with reinforced lock body and stronger material thickness, suited for larger motors from 50 hp and higher risk locations like marinas with many passersby. Both models are SCM-approved.
What is a wall anchor and when do I need one?
A wall anchor (also floor anchor) is a metal anchoring point you screw into concrete substrate: in the workshop, driveway, shed or dock. To this fixed point you secure your trailer, boat or outboard motor with a cable lock. Many insurers require a verified anchoring point for outdoor storage — a Floor Anchor ART-4 meets this requirement. Without anchor point a trailer can simply be taken by thieves regardless of how good the lock itself is.
Does a Lockk lock suffice for my insurance?
Most Dutch watersports and hull insurances accept ART-1 for trailers/cable locks and SCM for outboard motors as minimum approval requirement. Lockk products have these approvals and meet common policy conditions. Specific high-end insurances (mainly for boats over €50,000 or outboard motors over 150 hp) may have additional requirements such as double security or ART-4 level instead of ART-1. Always check the exact policy conditions of your insurance before ordering.
