What are the main characteristics of a windsurfing mast?
A windsurfing mast is designed to support your windsurfing sail. It is made of carbon or fiberglass and is offered in different lengths and diameters. Other features include stiffness, weight and durability. RDM and SDM have to do with the diameters of the mast. RDM stands for Reduced Diameter Mast and are narrower masts that are built for a lot of load and therefore they are very durable. The material is thicker and easy to handle. This makes an RDM mast perfect for a wave sail and strong winds. An SDM windsurf mast (standard diameter mast) is a thicker surf mast that is mainly thicker at the bottom and gets thinner the further up you go. Often the larger the sail the larger the diameter. So an SDM mast is often suitable for somewhat larger sails. A slalom/freeride sail often goes with an SDM surf mast.
