JOBE wakesurfer for surfing behind the boat
A JOBE wakesurfer is a floating surfboard that lets you surf the self-made wave behind a wakeboard boat, without holding on to a rope. JOBE supplies different shapes for beginners and advanced riders: the Raddix as an inflatable starter board, Pace and Laze as wide skim-style boards, the Sonic as a compact shape for manoeuvrability and the Raise as a surf-style board with more rocker for air tricks. The Golfmaker Push is an aid that creates a larger wake even behind smaller boats.
Skim-style or surf-style?
Wakesurf boards come in roughly two shapes. A skim-style board (Pace, Laze) is flat, wide and has little rocker; similar to a skimboard. It rides fast and is ideal for spins and surface tricks. A surf-style board (Raise) is longer, thicker and has more rocker; similar to a mini-malibu surfboard. It gives more pop when jumping and suits those who want to practise aerial tricks. The Sonic sits between the two. For beginners just learning to stand, the inflatable Raddix is forgiving and easy to pack away. Frequently asked questions about JOBE wakesurfers
What do I need to wakesurf?
Wakesurfing needs three things: a suitable boat with an inboard motor (no outboard, too dangerous for a falling surfer), a wakesurf board and a floating rope with handle to pull yourself up the first few metres. A life jacket is mandatory. The boat must generate a wave high enough to surf on; this works with a wakeboard- or wakesurf-specific motorboat with a ballast system. Smaller boat? The JOBE Golfmaker Push is an aid that uses flat fins under water to enlarge the wake at lower speed.
What is the difference between wakesurf and wakeboard?
When wakeboarding you hold a rope and ride over the wake; when wakesurfing you let go of the rope once you're in the wave and ride the pushing force of the wake. The speed is much lower (around 18 to 22 km/h versus 30 to 40 km/h for wakeboarding), making wakesurfing feel calmer and allowing you to stay on the wave for hours without getting tired. The techniques resemble surfing, with turns through weight shifting. It's a popular entry-level discipline for those who want to ride behind a boat but don't want to get slapped in the face by the water.
