Boat interior for tenders, motor boats and cabin cruisers
Boat interior covers all the fixed parts below deck that keep your boat liveable and ready to run: bilge pumps and drinking water systems, navigation lights, ship horns, tables, toilets and hydraulic steering. We stock almost 600 products from Hollex, Jabsco, Hella Marine, Rule, Delphi and Lecomble & Schmitt. Automatic or manual bilge pump?
An automatic bilge pump has a built-in or separate float switch that triggers the pump when the water level rises. The boat stays dry without you being on board. The Rule 500GPH and SeaFlo 750GPH are popular for tenders and motor boats up to 8 metres. A manual pump costs less but needs someone on board to operate the switch. For boats on an open mooring, automatic is the rule, with a minimum capacity of 600 GPH (gallons per hour) per bilge.
Frequently asked questions about boat interior
Which navigation lights must I carry on board?
Legal kit depends on boat length and waters. For a tender under 7 metres with an engine you need a white all-round masthead light and a combined port/starboard light (port red, starboard green) when running at night. Above 7 metres you add a separate stern light and an anchor light. LED units like the Hella Marine Naviled Pro or Hollex bow light set draw less battery current and last years longer than halogen. Check for the Wheelmark or comparable CE marking, then you meet inland waterway requirements.
How big should my fresh water tank and pump be?
For weekend cruising count roughly 5 to 10 litres of water per person per day, including cooking, drinking and rinsing. A family of four on a midweek trip lands around 150 litres of tank, a day-tripper is fine with 50 litres. The pump must match: the Jabsco ParMax 2 (7.6 litres per minute, 35 psi) suits a single tap, the ParMax 3 (11 litres per minute, 25 psi) two taps or a shower. Always filter your tap water with a Jabsco Aqua Filta or similar to keep taste and smell in check.
What is a fuel water separator and do I need one?
A fuel water separator is a filter that removes water from the diesel line before it reaches the engine or injectors. Water condensation forms in a half-empty fuel tank through temperature swings and is a common cause of engine trouble. For a diesel engine on an inland sloop a Delphi filter is a good default, rated for 45 litres per hour or more. Replace the element at least every two years, or sooner if you see water in the sight glass. For petrol engines a simple fuel filter with water separator is enough.
Which table works best on a tender with canopy?
For a tender a drop-in table top with a quick-release pedestal is the practical choice: table out when the canopy needs to close, back in for use. The Hollex Tafelzuil QR40 at 700 mm clears tender bench seats nicely. Combine with a drop-in top in dark grey with four cup holders, and glasses stay put even with starboard gusts. For larger motor boats with cockpit, fixed legs or a double pedestal are more stable at speed. Keep at least 65 cm between table and seat for comfortable seating.
