Musto sailing jacket for every sailing profile

A Musto sailing jacket is a waterproof technical sailing jacket from the British brand Musto, market leader in sailing gear since 1965 and for generations the official outfitter of the British Olympic sailing team. We stock all Musto jacket lines for men, women and children: from the entry-level Sardinia for summer day sailing to the Pro Ocean HPX for transatlantic crossings. Our Musto Sailing Jacket collection covers 49 active models across seven functional lines. For the complete brand overview including trousers, sailing sets and accessories see our Musto sailing gear collection.

Which Musto sailing jacket fits your sailing area?

The right choice depends on where you sail, how long you spend on deck and what weather you expect. The table below groups all Musto sailing jacket lines by use profile.

Use profileMusto linesSailing area
Coastal and cruisingSardinia 2.0, BR1, LPXInland water, day sailing, coastal
OffshoreBR2, BR3Multi-day trips, weekend passages
Racing and oceanMPX, HPXRacing, regattas, long crossings

For recreational day sailors on inland lakes and short coastal trips BR1 or Sardinia is more than enough. Those who regularly head out to sea look at BR2 or BR3 (the Pertex variant). Race sailors and ocean racers go for MPX or HPX with 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro. Want to compare different brands side by side? Musto lines in detail

Below a short explanation per line to help your choice.

Sardinia 2.0 is Musto's entry summer jacket for men in black or dark blue. Light rain protection for warm day sailing without the Gore-Tex price tag.

BR1 Channel and Solent form the coastal entry-level line in 2-layer BR1 fabric. The Channel is the full coastal sailing jacket with hood and storm flaps, the Solent (discontinued model) is sportier and shorter. See the Musto BR1 collection for details.

BR2 Offshore 2.0 is the offshore entry with heavier 2-layer BR2 fabric, for men and women in red, black, dark blue and yellow. See the Musto BR2 collection.

BR3 Pertex Offshore and Sport is a mid-tier alternative using Pertex Shield membrane instead of Gore-Tex. Lighter and more packable than BR2, BR3 Sport has a sportier cut for racing use in moderate to heavy conditions.

LPX is the lifestyle and cruising line with several versions: LPX Gore-Tex jacket, LPX Spray Top, LPX Softshell and LPX Stretch Midlayer. For men and women, suitable for coastal cruising up to lighter offshore conditions.

MPX Gore-Tex Pro is the offshore racing line in 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro with Offshore 2.0 and Race 2.0 sub-lines. See the Musto MPX collection for the complete range.

HPX Pro Ocean is the top-class ocean racing jacket with reinforced Gore-Tex Pro, fluorescent rescue details and YKK AquaSeal zippers. Men only in red.

Frequently asked questions about Musto sailing jackets

Which Musto sailing jacket is suitable for inland water and day sailing?

For inland water on lakes such as the IJsselmeer, Markermeer or the Frisian lakes and short coastal trips the Musto BR1 Channel is more than enough. This coastal jacket has a hood with storm flap, taped seams and stands up to rain and spray. For warm summer days when you need less protection, the Sardinia 2.0 is a lighter and cheaper option without Gore-Tex. Those who combine a lifestyle look with technical features pick the LPX Gore-Tex jacket for men or women. For longer passages or worse weather BR2 or BR3 is a sensible step up. Caught between models? Our store in Joure carries most variants in stock for fitting.

What is the difference between Musto BR3 and BR2?

BR2 and BR3 are both offshore sailing jackets from Musto with comparable protection, but use different waterproof technologies. BR2 is built from 2-layer BR2 fabric, a Musto-proprietary membrane. BR3 uses Pertex Shield, a British waterproof technology known for lighter weight and more compact pack size. Pertex is not Gore-Tex, but offers comparable breathability in a lighter package. The BR3 Sport variant has a sportier cut for racing use. Both lines overlap in sailing area (offshore and weekend passages), so the choice between BR2 and BR3 mostly comes down to fit, weight and personal preference for technology.

What is the Musto LPX line?

LPX is Musto's Lifestyle Performance line for cruising, day sailing and land use with technical features carried over from sailing gear. The LPX collection includes a Gore-Tex jacket (for men and women), an LPX Spray Top with pull-over cut, an LPX Softshell for windproofing without full waterproofing, and an LPX Stretch Midlayer as insulating layer. LPX is intended for sailors who want a versatile jacket for both water and shore, or for cruisers who don't need the weight of an MPX. The Gore-Tex variant is also waterproof under offshore conditions, the Softshell is more for coastal and on-shore use.

Does Musto offer sailing jackets for women and children?

Yes, Musto carries women's versions in most lines: BR1 Channel and Solent women, BR2 Offshore 2.0 women, BR3 Pertex Offshore women, LPX Gore-Tex women and MPX Offshore 2.0 women. The women's cut is sportier and shorter than the men's version. For children we carry the Musto BR1 Solent kids size in dark blue. The HPX line is currently stocked for men only.
