The pants are extra reinforced with Cordura® material on the knees, seat and bottom of the legs, eliminating wear in vulnerable areas. In 1877, Captain Helly Juell Hansen recognized the need for better protection against the harsh Norwegian elements. He and his wife, Maren Margarethe, began soaking coarse linen with linseed oil. This advanced process resulted in water-resistant clothing for workers at sea, and Helly Hansen was born.

Working from their basement, the innovative and hardworking duo tirelessly created workwear designed for long days at sea. The Norwegian manufacturer quickly became an important player in the clothing industry. Just one year after its founding, Helly Hansen received the first of many awards at the World's Fair in Paris.
