Mast foot safety
All mast feet have extra straps or ropes around the diabolo or tendon. This ensures that your sail will not become detached from your windsurfboard when the diabolo or tendon breaks. Breakage of the diabolo or tendon can be due to long-term use or drying out. The baseplate under the mast foot has a recess which prevents the mast foot from coming out of the mast rail when the mast foot is not tightened properly. It is important that the cutout is placed backwards and downwards.
Diabolo and Tee
For most windsurfer, a mast foot with diabolo will suffice. A diabolo is softer than a tendon making it easier to maintain control on rougher water. It also takes less energy because the diabolo absorbs the blows from the water and does not transfer to the sail. An added advantage is that it is easier to move your mast foot when the sail is in the water.
A mast foot with tendon can be chosen when you want to get the most out of your equipment. A tendon is stiffer than a diabolo so you have more direct energy transfer. This also means that you will tire faster in rough conditions.
