Musto MPX is Musto's Gore-Tex Pro line for offshore racing and longer passages, made from 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro laminate with welded seams and YKK AquaSeal zippers. Where BR1 and BR2 are still 2-layer constructions, MPX offers a lighter and significantly more breathable material suited to intensive work on deck under tough conditions. Offshore 2.0, Race 2.0 or Active: what fits you?
MPX comes in three functional sub-lines. Offshore 2.0 is the all-round offshore racing line for long passages, Race 2.0 is cut sportier for inshore racing and regattas, and MPX Active is a thermal base layer to wear under both. The table below compares the three sub-lines.

Materials, seams and features
All MPX models are built from 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro, the most breathable and durable Gore-Tex laminate. The Offshore 2.0 jacket has a high fleece-lined collar, a three-way adjustable hood with peak and storm flap, and YKK AquaSeal zippers that do not let in water. The Race 2.0 is cut sportier with a higher collar, shorter hem and lighter construction for optimal freedom of movement when racing. The MPX salopette comes with reinforced seat and knee patches, adjustable braces and a high back panel. What is the difference between MPX Offshore 2.0 and Race 2.0?
Offshore 2.0 is cut for longer passages with more freedom of movement, a longer hem for extra protection on deck and more comprehensive closures against cold water and wind. Race 2.0 is sportier and lighter, with a shorter hem and a higher collar matching racing fit. Both use the same 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro fabric and YKK AquaSeal zippers, so the waterproofing is identical. The difference is in fit and use case: for ocean crossings and weekend offshore Offshore 2.0 makes more sense, for inshore regattas and races where you move a lot on deck pick Race 2.0. Many experienced sailors carry both in the bag.
Musto MPX or BR2: which should I choose?
MPX is a step up from BR2 in material, weight and price. Where BR2 uses 2-layer BR2 fabric, MPX uses 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro that is significantly lighter, more breathable and more durable. For recreational weekend sailors and owners of classic yachts who go offshore occasionally, BR2 is more than enough. For experienced sailors who spend more than four days a month at sea, race offshore or plan longer ocean passages, MPX is the sensible investment. For extreme ocean racing under the harshest conditions, such as solo round-the-world races or the Volvo Ocean Race, sailors turn to the heavier HPX.
