When Is Each Light Required?
Under the COLREGS (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea) and local inland waterway rules, vessels must display the prescribed lights between sunset and sunrise and in restricted visibility. Motorboats under 7 m with a maximum speed of less than 7 knots may use a single white all-round light as an alternative.
