Buy Severne NCX surf sail for freeride and light freerace
The Severne NCX is the most requested Severne sail for recreational freeride and light-freerace windsurfers. It's a no-cam sail with strong profile hold and high top speed, suited for intermediate to advanced riders who want more performance without the maintenance of a cam sail. At watersportsonline.com you'll find the Severne NCX range in sizes 4.5 to 9.0 m² in multiple colour versions.
Which NCX size suits me?
| NCX size | Wind range | Riders 70-90 kg |
|---|---|---|
| 4.5 – 5.5 m² | 6-7 Bft | Strong wind, coast |
| 5.7 – 6.5 m² | 4-6 Bft | Average wind, inland water |
| 7.0 – 7.5 m² | 3-5 Bft | Standard allround |
| 8.0 – 9.0 m² | 2-4 Bft | Light wind, light riders |
The NCX is a no-cam sail sitting between classic freeride (like the Gator) and cam sails (like the Convert). It's easy to rig, gives direct acceleration and is the logical next step for inland water windsurfers after an entry freeride sail. The NCX line is built from X-ply and monofilm for durability and aerodynamics. Frequently asked questions about the Severne NCX
Which NCX size do I need on inland water?
For 75-85 kg riders on inland water with average wind 4-5 Bft the NCX 6.5 or 7.0 m² is the allround choice. In light wind (3 Bft) take 7.5 or 8.5 m², in strong wind (6 Bft+) take 5.5 or 6.0 m². Many inland riders have a quiver of 6.0 + 7.0 + 8.5 to cover varying wind. In coastal conditions the range usually drops half a size.
Which mast works on the NCX?
The NCX works on both RDM and SDM Severne masts. For sizes up to 7.0 m² a Severne RDM mast (Blue, Red, Gorilla) is the recommended choice. For sizes 7.5 m² and larger go to an SDM mast like the ARC SDM for optimal profile hold. IMCS-normalized masts from NeilPryde, Loftsails or Gunsails also work as long as the flex-top bend curve matches.
NCX or cam sail like the Convert?
An NCX is no-cam: it's faster to rig, lighter in the hand and more forgiving on short gybe work and gusty wind. A cam sail like the Convert gives an even more stable profile at sustained high speed, better for light wind large surfaces. For recreational freeride the NCX is the more practical choice.
