Frequently asked questions about Severne windsurf
Which Severne mast with which sail?
Severne masts come in RDM (Reduced Diameter Mast, thinner and stronger) and SDM (Standard Diameter Mast, performance on large sails). For wave and freestyle always use RDM: White RDM, Blue RDM, Red RDM, Gorilla RDM or Gorilla G2 RDM. For freeride 5.0 to 7.5 m² both RDM and SDM work, but most modern freeride sails specify RDM. For cam sails and slalom sails above 8.0 m² go for SDM like ARC SDM or APEX SDM.
Which mast extension do I need?
The mast extension gives you millimetre precision in clew length so the sail fits exactly on your mast. Severne offers various versions: Cyclops Carbon and Cyclops HD RDM for wave and freestyle, Race HD SDM and Triple HD RDM for freeride and racing, Triple Carbon and Carbon Race as lightweight race versions, Wave Grenade RDM and Wave Grenade Carbon RDM as wave-specific. For wave and freestyle pick an RDM version with 14-20 cm adjustment, for slalom and freerace take an SDM with 30-50 cm range.
Which Severne windsurf board do I choose?
Severne has three boards in the range: the Fox HD V3 is a freeride board for most recreational riders, designed for planing in choppy conditions with good gybe response. The Verso is a freeride allround for progressing riders from beginner to intermediate. The Dyno is aimed at advanced riders who want speed and early planing. Combine the Fox with an NCX or Gator sail for classic freeride.
Which Severne boom length for my sail?
The correct boom length is in the sail bag as adjustment range. The Severne Metal boom covers popular freeride ranges 140-190 cm and 170-220 cm. The Enigma is a carbon boom with smaller adjustment range per size variant but lighter and stiffer than Metal. The Blue Line is a mid-range between Metal and Enigma. Choose a boom where your sail clew length lies roughly in the middle of the adjustment range.
