The history of Musto
Keith Musto was an unlikely choice for the 1964 British Olympic sailing team, he was too light and short, but nevertheless Musto competed in the heavy Flying Dutchman boat. Along with his teammate, Tony Morgan, Keith soon realized that only physical fitness increased their chances of finishing first. Despite criticism from rivals, they trained their fitness daily. They won silver in Tokyo.
After winning silver in Tokyo, Musto realized the need for technical sailing apparel. For years, they sailed in Guernsey sweaters and old flannel pants. The sailors got wet and cold, but they accepted it. For a long time Keith Musto had been dissatisfied with sailing apparel, eventually Musto realized this was a problem that needed to be solved. He began making sails, but soon shifted his focus to apparel production. In 1980, he split from Musto & Hyde and launched his own company, specializing in high-quality sailing apparel. Thus, Musto was born.
