Buy Severne windsurf masts for freeride, wave and slalom
Severne windsurf masts are carbon-reinforced rigs for windsurfers from recreational to world championship level, designed for optimal bend response and long lifespan. At watersportsonline.com you'll find the Severne mast range in RDM (Reduced Diameter Mast, thinner and stronger for wave and freestyle) and SDM (Standard Diameter Mast, performance on large freerace and slalom sails). The range includes the White RDM as entry, the Blue RDM and Red RDM as mid-range, the Gorilla RDM and Gorilla G2 RDM as high-end carbon masts, plus the ARC SDM for freerace and the APEX SDM as top model for pro slalom.
Which Severne mast with which sail?
| Mast | Diameter | Carbon % | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|
| White RDM | RDM | 30% | Entry mast for freeride and wave 4.5-6.5 m² |
| Blue RDM | RDM | 60% | Mid-range for freeride and wave 4.5-7.5 m² |
| Red RDM | RDM | 75% | Performance freeride and wave 4.5-7.5 m² |
| Gorilla RDM | RDM | 85% | Pro wave and freestyle, highest durability |
| Gorilla G2 RDM | RDM | 100% | Top-end carbon for pro wave and freestyle |
| ARC SDM | SDM | 75% | Freerace and slalom 6.0-9.0 m² (cam sails) |
| APEX SDM | SDM | 100% | Pro slalom top model, maximum stiffness |
Severne masts come in standard windsurf mast lengths 340, 370, 400, 430, 460 and 490 cm; always check the sail bag for the length you need. RDM is mandatory on Severne Blade, S-1, Freek and recommended for Gator, Moto and NCX below 7.0 m². SDM is used for cam sails like Convert and NCX above 7.5 m². Frequently asked questions about Severne masts
What's the difference between RDM and SDM mast?
RDM (Reduced Diameter Mast) has a thinner profile (29 mm) and is stronger at the same wall thickness, ideal for wave and freestyle where the mast takes hard impacts. SDM (Standard Diameter Mast) has a wider profile (32 mm) and gives more direct power transfer on large sails, suited for freerace, slalom and cam sails from 7.5 m². When in doubt between RDM and SDM for freeride 6.5-7.5 m²: check what the sail specifies, as modern sails are increasingly RDM-only.
Which carbon percentage should I choose?
The carbon percentage determines stiffness and weight. 30% (White) is a good entry for learners and progressing riders. 60-75% (Blue, Red, ARC) is the sweet spot for most freeride and wave riders with good performance at acceptable price. 85-100% (Gorilla, Gorilla G2, APEX) is pro level with significantly lighter weight and better reflex.
Which mast length do I need?
Mast length is on the sail bag as luff length. Sails up to 5.5 m² use 400 cm, freeride 6.0-7.5 m² uses 430 cm, and sails from 8.0 m² use 460 or 490 cm. A mast extension gives 14-50 cm extra precision so you reach the exact luff measurement.
Do Severne masts fit other brand sails?
Severne RDM and SDM masts are IMCS-normalized and fit sails of all common brands (NeilPryde, Loftsails, Gunsails, Point-7, Goya, North) as long as the IMCS bend curve matches. Severne sails have a flex-top bend curve that works optimally with Severne masts. Performance sails from other brands may work better with their own brand mast.
