A boat primer is the critical adhesion layer between the hull and the topcoat or antifouling. Without the right primer, subsequent coats bond poorly and peel off sooner.
| Product | Type | Application |
|---|---|---|
| Multi Marine Primer | Universal adhesion primer | Polyester, GRP, steel, aluminium |
| Antifouling Primer | Specialist adhesion primer | Underwater area before antifouling |
| Defender Set | Primer + antifouling | Combination set for complete first coat |
| Mistral Fondo | Epoxy primer | Osmosis protection, perfect adhesion |
Surface Preparation
Sand the surface with 80–120 grit paper to improve adhesion. Then degrease thoroughly with a suitable boat cleaner. Allow the surface to dry completely — the ideal application temperature is between 10 and 25 °C.
Epoxy vs. Wash vs. Multi-Marine Primer
Epoxy primer offers the best osmosis protection and is ideal for first-time coating and repairs. Wash primer (etch primer) bonds directly to bare metal without sanding. Multi-Marine Primer is the all-rounder for GRP, wood, and metal both above and below the waterline.
