JOBE waterski for combo and slalom
A JOBE waterski set consists of two combo skis that you tow behind a motorboat for recreational skiing. JOBE builds three main models: the Allegre as price/quality all-rounder, the Mode as top model with luxury binding and the Hemi for the youngest skiers. Beginners almost always pick a package with rope, life jacket and carry bag, advanced skiers upgrade to a Mode Slalom or the Baron Slalom with sharpened edges.
What waterski size do I need?
As with snow skiing, your weight and height are the main factors. For kids there are separate trainers with a wide nose and a connector that keeps the tips together.
| Ski type | Length | Suitable for | Example model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kids trainers | 46" | Kids up to 35 kg | JOBE Hemi Trainers 46", Buzz Trainers 46" |
| Combo recreational | 67" | Teens and adults 50 to 90 kg | JOBE Allegre 67", Hemi Combo |
| Combo top model | 67" | Adults up to 100 kg | JOBE Mode 67" |
| Slalom | 65" or 67" | Advanced, sharp turns | JOBE Baron Slalom |
For heavier skiers, 65" is a better choice than 67" because the shorter board picks up speed faster. Beginners stick with 67" for stability. For waterskis from other brands check our general waterski category.
Combo, slalom or trainer?
A combo set consists of two skis and is meant for starting with both legs wide. A slalom ski is a single ski with two bindings in line, for advanced skiers who want sharp turns without the second ski. Trainers are kids' skis that use a connector to keep the tips together so the child doesn't go into the splits. The JOBE Allegre Combo is the bestseller for those starting out; the Mode is the step up with better binding and sharper rail. You ride the Baron Slalom once you can comfortably stay on one ski.
Waterski rope and life jacket
A waterski rope has a fixed length of 22.8 meters (75 feet) in competitive sport. For recreation, shorter section ropes are enough. JOBE supplies combo ropes for recreation, an Easy Up Deep V Deluxe for slalom and grip models for kids or trick ski. A proper life jacket of at least 50N is mandatory for every skier.
Frequently asked questions about JOBE waterski
How much hp do I need to waterski?
For a combo waterski set you need a motorboat of at least 70 hp to pull an adult out of the water smoothly. For lighter skiers and kids on trainers a 40 to 50 hp outboard is enough, especially with a quick-accelerating boat. Slalom skiers on a single ski require more pulling power because resistance rises on sharp turns; 100 hp or more makes sense. The boat must also accelerate quickly: a slow boat never pulls you out of the water well. Skiing speed sits between 25 km/h (kids) and 55 km/h (advanced slalom).
What's the difference between Allegre and Mode?
The JOBE Allegre is the best-known recreational waterski model: a combo set of 67 inch with a universal binding that fits virtually any foot, easy to adjust and affordable. The Mode is the top model in the JOBE waterski range, also 67 inch, but with luxury bindings that give more support and comfort. The edges of the Mode are sharper and the underside has a better profile, so the ski cuts through the water instead of ploughing over it. For anyone skiing regularly and looking to build skill, the Mode is the logical step up.
Which binding fits me?
JOBE offers two types of waterski bindings. The universal Allegre binding is an open-toe buckle system covering shoe sizes 40 to 47; ideal when you share the skis with family or when feet are still growing. The luxury Comfort and Focus bindings on the Mode and Baron Slalom are closed-toe rubber boots that fully enclose your foot, with better pressure distribution and less fatigue. For slalom skiing a closed-toe is strongly recommended because you apply a lot of lateral pressure. Sizing question? Our specialists in Joure fit with you.
How do I teach my child to waterski?
The JOBE Hemi Trainers or Buzz Trainers are special 46" skis with a rubber connector that holds the tips together. This prevents your child from going into the splits and keeps them between the two skis until they stand comfortably. Tow your child at low speed (15 to 25 km/h) behind a calm boat, with a floating handle at the right height. A proper 50N life jacket is mandatory. Start in flat water and make sure a second adult is in the boat to watch. Most kids stand after three to five attempts.
