The Tohatsu 5 hp long-tail is suitable for sailboats and boats where the transom is far from the water. For dinghies, we recommend a short-tail engine.
The Tohatsu 5hp is a four-stroke engine, the exhaust is incorporated into the propeller which makes the engine extra quiet. Because of the CDI ignition, the engine starts very easily even when the engine is cold. Adjustable steering friction for reducing the steering force. The outboard engine is easy to connect to an external tank.
Internally, the engine is very well equipped. The housing of the water pump is made of stainless steel which makes it last longer. On the tailpiece is an anode that protects the engine from corrosion. The cooling system is thermostatically controlled which ensures that the engine never gets too hot. High quality aluminum alloy is used and all internal passages are coated with zinc which protects the engine internally from corrosion.
There are several safety features. The engine has an oil pressure indicator so there is never too little oil. The engine has a deadman cord so that the engine will shut off if the operator falls overboard. There is a start protection device so that the engine can only be started when the outboard motor is in neutral.
