Buy SUP pump
A SUP pump is essential for inflating an inflatable SUP board (iSUP). There are two types: manual pumps that you operate by hand, and electric pumps that do the work for you. At Watersportsonline you will find SUP pumps for every use: from a compact double action hand pump to an electric 12V pump with automatic pressure stop, compatible with all common iSUP valves.
Which SUP pump suits me?
| Type | Action | Advantage | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual single action | Pumps only on the downstroke | Simple and affordable | Emergency reserve or occasional use |
| Manual double action | Pumps on both down and upstroke | Twice as fast as single action | Recreational paddler, daily use |
| Electric 12V | Automatically to set PSI pressure | No effort, multiple boards per session | Intensive use, families, multiple boards |
Most iSUP boards come with a manual double action pump. An electric pump is an upgrade for those who prefer not to pump. Also check out the SUP board collection for complete boards and SUP accessories. For JOBE-specific pumps and accessories visit the JOBE SUP collection.
Manual SUP pump: double action
A double action pump pushes air into the board on both the downstroke and upstroke, making it twice as efficient as a single action pump. Most double action pumps have a built-in pressure gauge. The recommended pressure for iSUP boards is typically 12 to 15 PSI, and up to 18 PSI for premium double-layer boards. At higher pressures the double action automatically switches to single action for accurate final pressure adjustment.
Electric SUP pump: automatic to pressure
An electric SUP pump runs on 12V DC and connects to your car's cigarette lighter or an external battery. You set the desired pressure, start the pump and wait. The pump stops automatically when the set pressure is reached. An electric pump inflates a standard SUP board in approximately 8 to 12 minutes, depending on the volume and target pressure.
Frequently asked questions about SUP pumps
What is the difference between double action and single action?
A single action pump only pushes air on the downstroke. A double action pump pushes air on both the down and upstroke, making it twice as efficient. At higher pressures the double action automatically switches off so you can reach the final pressure precisely without over-inflating.
When should I choose an electric rather than a manual SUP pump?
An electric pump is the logical choice if you inflate multiple boards per session, have physical limitations or simply want to save your energy for paddling. Manual pumps can be used anywhere without a power source and are cheaper. For recreational paddling with one board, a good double action hand pump is generally sufficient.
What pressure should I inflate my SUP board to?
Typically 12 to 15 PSI for entry-level boards and 15 to 18 PSI for premium double-layer boards. The recommended pressure is shown on the valve or in the board's manual. Too little pressure gives a soft board that flexes under load and paddles slowly. Too much pressure can damage the seams and dropstitch material.
Will the pump fit the valve on my SUP board?
Almost all inflatable SUP boards use a Halkey-Roberts valve (also known as an HR valve or push-pin valve). Most SUP pumps come with an adapter for this valve system. Some older boards or kayaks use a Boston valve or Leafield valve. Check the valve system of your board before purchasing a pump. A pump with an adapter set will fit most valve systems.
