Buy a boat cleat
A cleat is an essential stainless-steel fitting for securing fender lines, mooring lines and tow eyes. Our range covers three sizes (100/125/150 mm) in AISI 316 stainless steel, suitable for dinghies through to larger RIBs. | Size | Recommended boat size |
|---|---|
| 100 mm | Small boats up to 2.5 m |
| 125 mm | 2.5–3.5 m |
| 150 mm | RIBs 3.5 m and above |
All cleats are made from 316 (A4) stainless steel — the most corrosion-resistant marine grade. The smooth surface prevents line chafe and resists salt and UV degradation. Find more boat accessories at Boat accessories.
Installation instructions
Drill holes at the correct spacing, apply sealant (e.g. Sikaflex-291 or PVC primer), fit the cleat with a backing nut. Allow the sealant to cure for at least 24 hours before loading the cleat.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a cleat and an eye?
A cleat projects from the hull and has two raised horns — ideal for securing lines with a cleat hitch. An eye ring lies flat against the hull and suits direct-pull applications.
Can I fit a cleat on a fibreglass (GRP) boat?
Yes. On fibreglass hulls we recommend fitting a backing plate on the inside to spread the load and protect the laminate.
What load does a cleat handle?
100–200 kg in vertical pull. For towing, combine two cleats or use a dedicated tow eye.
Which sealant should I use?
PVC primer with Sikaflex-291 is highly recommended. Allow the sealant to cure for 24 hours before use.
