Hydrofoil: does it really work?
A hydrofoil is a wing-shaped fin mounted on the cavitation plate of the outboard motor. At speed the hydrofoil generates downward pressure on the motor housing, helping the boat get on plane faster and the bow to come down quicker. Effects are most noticeable on lightly-built boats that are heavily loaded.
