Boat anchor
An anchor holds your boat at a chosen position when you stop, swim or want to spend a night on board. Find mushroom anchors from 1.5 to 12 kg for dinghies, inflatables and small motorboats, and delta anchors from 5 to 15 kg for larger vessels. Also see our anchor lines.
Mushroom or delta anchor?
| Type | Weights | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Mushroom anchor | 1.5-12 kg | Soft to medium bottom, rivers, lakes. Folds for storage. |
| Delta anchor | 5-15 kg | Sand, clay and hard bottom, better grip in strong currents. |
Rule of thumb: minimum 0.5 kg anchor weight per metre of boat length. 5-7 times water depth as line length for good grip. More in our mushroom anchor collection.
Frequently asked questions
What anchor weight do I need?
Start with 0.5 kg per metre of boat length. A 3-metre boat needs at least 1.5 kg in calm inland water. Add more for strong currents. A delta anchor provides better grip than a mushroom anchor at equal weight on sand and clay.
How long should my anchor line be?
5 to 7 times the water depth. At 3 metres depth use 15-21 metres of line. In strong currents or wind increase to 7-10 times depth for reliable holding.
