Identifying Battery Types
Flooded (wet) batteries have removable caps for topping up with distilled water. AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries are maintenance-free and position-independent. Gel batteries are vibration-resistant and deep-discharge tolerant. Lithium batteries (LiFePO4) are lightweight and fast-charging, but require a charger with a dedicated lithium programme.
Winter Storage and Maintenance Charging
In winter, connect a charger with a maintenance (trickle) mode. Store the battery at temperatures above 0 °C and check the charge level approximately halfway through the storage period.
