Maintenance schedule by season
Start of season: Check engine for winter damage, polish and wax the hull, clean the teak deck, inspect all fittings.
During the season: Rinse the boat with fresh water after every outing, remove salt deposits from fittings, clean covers and sails as needed.
End of season: Thoroughly clean all surfaces, drain and antifreeze the fresh-water system, treat the hull for winter storage.
Waterproofing — when and how to apply
Technical textiles such as oilskins, covers and sails have a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) coating that diminishes over time. Test water repellency: if water no longer beads but soaks into the fabric, a reproof is needed.
Step by step:
- Wash the textile with a specialist cleaner for technical fabrics (max. 40 °C, no ordinary detergent).
- Apply reproofer evenly to the still-damp or dry textile.
- Activate the DWR with heat: 20 minutes in the tumble dryer on low heat, or iron on a gentle setting with a cloth in between.
