A Child Life Jacket provides protection and safety in and around the water. Both on board and ashore, it is obviously important for children to be able to sail and play safely. There are different types of life jackets and life preservers for children available. When buying a new vest, it is good to pay attention to a number of important points, such as material, weight, fit and use. You should also carefully consider whether you need a life jacket or a life jacket. The two are sometimes confused with each other while there are important differences between them.
The difference between a Life Jacket and Child Life Jacket
A life jacket child and a life jacket child are not the same thing, yet these terms are still regularly used interchangeably. Obviously, both types keep you afloat in the water. A life jacket has a collar in the neck, this ensures that you are turned onto your back in the water with your head above water. Even when unconscious, a life jacket always puts you on your back. A life jacket is a buoyancy aid and has no collar, this keeps you afloat on your belly.
When to buy a child life jacket or a lifejacket?
When a child does not yet have a swimming certificate, it is important to wear a life jacket. Also, when children join you on board on larger waters, it is advisable to wear a life jacket, even if they do have their swimming certificate. A life jacket is a good option only when a child has obtained at least swimming certificate A and thus can already swim independently. In addition, the choice of a life jacket child depends on its use. During swimming, playing or other water sports activities is a life jacket more suitable. The child is then not bothered by the collar that hinders freedom of movement. In addition, a life jacket often fits better around the body, which makes for a more comfortable wear.
Differences Children's Lifejackets?
Life jackets come in several varieties, the main difference being in the material. The most commonly used materials for life jackets are Nylon and Neoprene. A life jacket made of Nylon is lighter in weight, cheaper than a neoprene vest, but also slightly stiffer. In addition, Nylon is a dense material that does not drain moisture as well during prolonged use on and around the water. A Neoprene life jacket is slightly heavier, but very flexible and soft, making it comfortable to wear. The water drainage system is better which makes it comfortable even out of the water, this is ideal if a child has to wear the life jacket all day. These life jackets fall into a higher price category. Finally, there is a difference in fit. Because nylon is slightly stiffer, these fit less snugly around the body. Nylon life jackets for children therefore only come in universal sizes. A Neoprene life jacket has a better fit and are available in all children's sizes!
Which Child Life Jacket?
Which child life jacket do you need? Each life jacket has a maximum specified weight for each size. These sizes and weights are based on an average child. It is important not to exceed the maximum weight. The fit of a child life jacket is very important. If the life jacket is too big, it can shoot up over the head in the water. As a result, the safety of the vest is lost. Therefore, buying a life jacket growing up is not a good idea. Make sure the life jacket fits well and that the child falls within the specified weight range! Still not sure? Then stop by our store to try on the life jackets. Lifejacket Child
A lifejacket child often comes in the well-known fluorescent orange or yellow color for good visibility in and on the water. These life jackets are always equipped with a whistle and a strap between the legs. In addition to a life jacket with an inside foam, there are also automatic life jackets. This one inflates itself when it comes in contact with water. On the inside is a gas cartridge and a salt tablet, when it comes in contact with water the vest inflates. So in a dinghy sailboat where there is direct contact with the water, this is not practical. These life jackets are therefore mainly used on larger boats when there is no contact with water. Also, the buoyancy of these types of vests is higher because they are usually used on larger waters with, for example, a sailing suit underneath.
