Wingsurfing is a spectacular water sport that offers a mix of windsurfing, supping and kitesurfing. With an inflatable wingsurf wing and a special board, you can float over the water thanks to the wind. Whether practicing for the first time on flat water or already taking on the challenge of waves, wingsurfing is an accessible sport for beginners and always remains a challenge for experienced wingsurfers as well.
Wingboards: The basics of Wingsurfing
A wingboard is the board you stand on while wingsurfing. There are different types of wingboards available, depending on your level and the type of water you surf. Beginners often choose a larger board with more volume and stability. Such a board offers enough buoyancy to practice comfortably in low winds. For experienced wingsurfers, a smaller board is often the ideal choice because it is more maneuverable and performs better at higher speeds.
An important difference from a normal board is that wingboards have a hydrofoil underneath. This foil elevators the board out of the water as soon as you have enough speed, making you "float" above the water, so to speak. This reduces drag and makes wingsurfing possible even in constant winds with lower power.
In our assortment you will find different types of boards. Hardboards are made of lightweight materials such as carbon and are ideal for people who take windsurfing seriously. In addition, there are inflatable boards. The inflatable version is ideal for those who want to easily transport or store the board. When choosing your board, consider your own weight, skill level and the conditions in which you will be surfing. Also, don't forget a board leash to prevent your board from drifting away.
The Wing: Your Wing
The wing is an inflatable wing that you hold in your hands while wingsurfing. Wings come in different sizes depending on your weight, skill and wind conditions. A large wing offers more buoyancy in light winds, while a small wing is perfect for heavier winds and higher speeds.
Modern wings are lightweight, durable and easy to assemble. Many wings have handles and are specially designed for good control and performance in various wind forces. With a well-chosen wing, you can learn to wingsurf even in low winds.
The Wingfoil: Floating over the water
A wingfoil board has a foil (a special fin with a wing shape) and often a shorter mast. Thanks to the foil, you are lifted out of the water at sufficient speed, providing a unique floating experience. This makes wingfoiling not only faster, but also quieter and smoother than traditional windsurfing or kitesurfing.
Wingfoiling is ideal for inland water, shallow water and even light waves. Beginner? Then consider a wingfoil lesson first to learn proper technique and balance. With some practice, you'll soon gain proper control of your board and wing.
Advice for beginners
For beginners, it is important to choose the right equipment. A stable board without a foil is ideal for your first experience of wingsurfing. In this case, a 5-6 m² wing is ideal for adults between 70-90 kg. It offers enough traction in low winds but remains controllable.
Are you starting right away with a foilboard? Then choose a foil with a surface area between 1500-2000 cm². These offer the right balance between stability and progression. Larger foils are perfect for inland water and lighter winds, while smaller foils perform better in strong winds or at sea.
When choosing a board, sufficient volume is important. A larger board gives extra stability and makes it easier to learn. With the right combination of board, foil and wing, you will progress quickly and enjoy your first laps on the water!
