Surfing, of course, requires a good surf suit. A surf suit is a wetsuit suitable for surf sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing, this is due to the high quality and flexibility of the surf suit. Our wide range of surf suits from the brands Prolimit, Brunotti and Hurley ensure that we have surf suits suitable for every surfer. These surf suits can be found in our wetsuit shop, both online and in-store.

HOW DOES A WETSUIT WORK?

A surf suit also called a wetsuit is a neoprene suit that you wear during extended periods of time in cold water and windy conditions. A wetsuit is made of neoprene, which is a synthetic rubber material known for its excellent insulating properties and good flexibility for freedom of movement. A wetsuit keeps you warm because a thin layer of water comes between your body and the neoprene, this layer of water is insulated and this keeps you warm. So you still get wet when wearing a wetsuit.

If your wetsuit is too loose your wetsuit can bulge and then the neoprene has no insulating effect, it is therefore very important to choose the right size wetsuit so that the upper part and the legs fit tightly around your body. Fitting a wetsuit properly is crucial for both insulation and comfort during wind or kite surfing.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF SURF SUITS

You obviously want to purchase the best surf suit that is most suitable for you. In our range we offer different wetsuits of different thicknesses for surfing, so you can always come to us for all conditions. We also have a wide range of women's wetsuits, available in different types and thicknesses. Whether you hit the freezing cold waters in winter and are looking for a good warm suit or just hit the water on a summer evening in a shorty wetsuit, we offer it all in our range. For the colder temperatures in spring, fall and winter we recommend donning a fullsuit, this suit covers your whole body keeping you well warm if you fall and have to swim a stretch. Fullsuits are often made of a thinner layer of neoprene for better flexibility and comfort. In the summer months, you can also opt for a shorty wetsuit, which does not have the entire legs and arms covered. This makes this a perfect choice for the summer months. In addition, you also have long john wetsuits, these have long legs but free arms, these wetsuits are less suitable for surfing.

WHAT SURF SUIT THICKNESS DO YOU NEED?

The thicker the neoprene, the warmer the surf suit is. You choose the wetsuit thickness based on the conditions in which you will enter the water. You determine this mainly based on the water temperature, it also plays a role how sensitive you are to cold. The general guidelines for the thickness of a wetsuit go as follows: a 3/2mm is mainly suitable for the warmer temperatures such as the Dutch summers when the water is around 20 degrees. A 4/3mm wetsuit is suitable for water between 12 - 17 degrees. For the winter months with temperatures of 9 - 13 degrees a 5/4mm is enough, but if it gets colder than 9 degrees we recommend a 6/4mm. For the winter months, also don't forget to wear good gloves and surf shoes against the cold. You can find a wide range of wetsuits and get advice on wetsuit buying in our store or online.

WHY A FRONT ZIPPER ON A SURF SUIT?

Most surf suits have the zipper on the front of the suit, this has several advantages for surfing. First, with a front zipper you have optimal freedom of movement. Sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing require a lot of arm and shoulder movement, and because there is no zipper on the back your back also has more freedom of movement. In addition, a front zipper lets less water in compared to a back zipper. For longer surf sessions, a front zipper is the perfect choice for all surfers.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SURF SUITS

We have a wide range of men's surf suits and women's surf suits, a men's surf suit has a different shape than a women's surf suit. The difference in sizes is in the upper body and hips. A men's wetsuit is wider at the shoulders and narrower at the hips. A women's wetsuit is narrower at the shoulders and wider at the hips and chest. It is important to choose the right size for the perfect fit.
